March 13 – Annual Rules Class

Safety Rules

Our 2021 Annual Rules Class will take place Saturday, March 13, 2021, taught virtually via Zoom. The class begins at 8:00 a.m., and if you expect to take all three parts, plan on staying until at least 4:00 p.m. to complete your tests. Safety Rules are for ALL museum volunteers, while Operating and Air Brakes are required for all train crew volunteers. The class is split into three parts:

PART ONE: SAFETY – Strongly suggested for ALL VOLUNTEERS, regardless if you are in train service or not. Covers basic safety rules, radio rules, and customer service.

PART TWO: OPERATING – The second part of the class is devoted to rules of train operation. This second part is required for anyone interested in volunteering for train service (car host, brakeman, conductor, or engineer).

PART THREE: AIR BRAKES – The third part of the class is devoted to air brakes and train handling. This part is required for anyone interested in volunteering as a conductor or engineer.

Please have your Rulebook and Timetable so you can refer to it during class. If you don’t have one, these books will be issued to you either as PDF files or hard copy upon request. You must RSVP to Frank Gough by March 10.

Feb. 13 – West Shore Brewing Hammerhead IPA Beer Release Pop-Up Sale

West Shore Brewing

West Shore Brewing
Our friends at West Shore Brewing in Clarence, NY, are teaming up with the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad museum in Rush, NY, to host a special beer sale pop-up event! West Shore is celebrating the release of their new Hammerhead IPA, a beer inspired by Lehigh Valley “Hammerhead” Alco RS-3 211. This double-dry hopped recipe features Centennial, Simcoe, and Mosaic hops. Also available will be Green Flyer New England IPA (inspired by Green Mountain Railway Alco RS-1 405), Gandy Dancer Raspberry Pineapple Sour, King Edward Porter, and the new Imperial Banana Cream Pie Stout! As a railroad-inspired brewery, West Shore Brewing is proud to support the volunteers of RGVRRM who work hard to preserve our region’s railroad history. As thanks, a portion of each sale will be donated to the museum. All beer sold as four-packs of 16 oz. cans, available for pick up at the museum on Saturday, February 13, 2020, from 11am to 4pm.

Pre-Order Beer

Hammerhead IPA 4-Pack – $15.00

Special IPA done in conjunction with the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum. Inspired by the preserved locomotive Lehigh Valley 211. Launching as close to February 11 as we can! This soft and hazy New England IPA can be said to be inspired by Green Flyer. However, with a different yeast strain and hopping schedule, including a double dry hop of Mosaic and Simcoe. This IPA is bursting with resinous pineapple and tropical citrus and mango notes.

Green Flyer 4-Pack – $13.00

Our flagship IPA that is New England inspired but with a Western New York kick. Featuring WNY Centennial Simcoe and Mosaic Hops. 6.3%, 45 IBUs.

Gandy Dancer Raspberry Pineapple Sour 4-Pack – $15.00

This raspberry pineapple sour is fruity tart and creamy. Combining malted and flaked oats and a bit of lactose. Perfect for the fruited sour fan.

Imperial Banana Cream Pie Stout 4-Pack – $15.00

This 8% stout is a hybrid of two styles. Is it a Banana Cream Pie Stout with chocolate icing? Or a Chocolate Milkshake Hefeweizen? We took a chocolate stout malt bill, and use a hefeweizen yeast to bring out natural banana esters. The add in extra chocolate and a bit of lactose and you have this creamy banana cream pie. Or it may come off as a chocolate covered banana. You be the judge on this experimental stout.

King Edward Porter 4-Pack – $12.00

Grab a 4-Pack our chocolatey and smooth English Porter. Easy drinking, great notes and esters of a traditional porter, perfect for any bonfire or tailgate.

We encourage you to pre-order your beer as some quantities are limited and may sell out. Pre-order your four-packs today!
